Beautiful single-storey extension with a modern kitchen and utility


The ground floor layout of the Holcombe family home was not conducive to their sociable family life and they wanted to bring more natural light into their property. They wanted to create a large open-plan space to include a kitchen, dining and family room but they did not want to compromise their outside space by extending.



Our architect proposed to knock through the walls between the kitchen, utility, cloakroom and dining room to create a space for socialising and entertaining. The large garage would house the new cloakroom and utility. Our construction team completed a strip out and installed brick pillar supports to form the foundation for the new steel beams. Walls were cut out and lintels fixed into place ready for the insertion of new floor-to-ceiling windows. A new drainage system was fitted within the kitchen island, and a wet underfloor heating system was installed. The garage space was reconfigured to create a new utility room and cloakroom which enabled access from the hallway. A bespoke Hampton kitchen was designed, manufactured and installed into the new larger space.


The dark kitchen and dining room have been converted into a light filled, dual aspect living space which completely transforms the layout of the house. The open-plan design gives the home a wonderful kitchen and family area for cooking, entertaining and relaxing. The increased utility space and cloakroom provide a fantastic ‘working’ environment that functions perfectly within the new layout. The underfloor heating gives the home a radiant warmth.
